The Role:

Cometeer is looking for a thorough, organized professional with a practical mind, hands on experience, attention to detail, and a focus on safety. The Maintenance Lead will be responsible for managing the Maintenance Department at Cometeer’s Gloucester, MA Manufacturing Factory, with Maintenance Technicians reporting directly to this position. This individual will report to the Factory Engineering / Maintenance Sr. Manager and work closely with the Facilities, Operations, Quality, and Engineering team.

Ultimately, this role will provide technical and organizational leadership to the Maintenance Technicians and Operations Team to ensure equipment uptime and efficiency. This is a technical function supporting daily firefights and preventative maintenance but organizational skills are key trait to the success of this role. Proficiency with Google Suite of business applications to plan and make data driven decisions is a must. This role has upper mobility potential to a Maintenance Supervisor/Manager Role, or Engineering Path.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead technical troubleshooting, conduct preventive maintenance (PM), and reactive repairs on more than one of these types of equipment:
    • Mechanical systems, conveyor systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, servo motors, robotics, and liquid process systems
  • Leverage data collection / analysis to measure, troubleshoot, and improve system performance
  • Develop, maintain, and report on process, equipment and resource efficiency KPIs
  • Lead morning kickoff and weekly team planning meeting for the Maintenance Department
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance program, create and schedule Maintenance work orders through our electronic work order computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) system, MaintainX
    • Develop and maintain maintenance job instructions utilizing equipment manuals, industry experience, and lessons learned
    • Schedule maintenance activities in coordination with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Warehouse, Facilities, and Sanitation Departments
  • Train and maintain Maintenance Team developmental growth plans
  • Order and maintain spares inventories and manage spend against team budget by utilizing MaintainX
  • Source and manage vendor relationships for components and services
  • Support equipment selection for continuous improvement and capacity capital project
    • Install, assemble and test new machines and equipment; understand and comply with workplace safety and quality regulations
    • Support design and fabricate, assemble, and integrate prototypes with direction from Engineering and Operations team for R&D and continuous improvement projects
  • Responsibility for maintenance shop safety, documentation, and organization
  • Work Cross-Functionally with other key departments to be the liaison in owning/closing of action items, gaps, or required improvements with the Maintenance Team

    What we’re looking for:

    • 3-5 + years of experience working in a maintenance/technical capacity with production manufacturing equipment
    • High School Diploma or equivalent industrial training or certification
    • Hands on experience working with and troubleshooting electromechanical systems
    • Ability to analyze problems and error conditions, identify root causes, and implement viable long-term solutions - specifically using data driven decision making
    • Good communication skills cross functionally with various departments (Quality, Operations, Engineering, etc.)
    • Experience with spare part sourcing, ordering, and vendor management
    • Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical assembly drawings
    • Understanding of Industrial Electrical Safety Hazards, and requirements to maintain a safe workplace
    • Proficient with pneumatics-solenoid valves, actuators, controls, and can read schematics
    • Advanced understanding of general maintenance foundations, procedures, and techniques
    • Ability to work independently but also lead a small team
    • Well organized and have the ability to prioritize tasks
    • Physical stamina to handle a full shift of active work on their feet, ability to lift up to 50lbs
    • Ability to work off-shifts - as needed

    Preferred:

    • 5+ years hands on experience working with electromechanical systems (food/bev manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or CPG Experience preferred)
    • Engineering Associate's degree, vocational program, technical Apprenticeship or other formal technical accreditation(s)
    • Allen Bradley or other controls automation experience
    • Mill, lathe, or other machining/fabrication experience
    • Solidworks, AutoCAD, or other CAD experience
    • Experience working with a quality management system in a regulated industry
    • Experience working with a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) platform (MaintainX)
    • Love for Coffee!

      Other Physical Responsibilities and Working Conditions:

      • Routinely traverse production floor, following safety protocols
      • Work in a stationary position for extended periods of time (sitting or standing)
      • Perform tasks within manufacturing environment (work around and within heavy machinery, with loud noises at times)
      • Lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds
